Three local athletes will be competing at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, Fla. in June.
Mathew Benn of BeeBe Plain will be competing in golf, and Pascal Deppisch of Danville and Chelsea Waldner of St. Johnsbury will be competing in track & field.
The Games run from June 5 to June 12.
The three competitors are part of Team Vermont.
Pascal, a senior at Danville High School, is ready to race. He never stops running, currently competing in spring track competitions for his school while training at St. Johnsbury Academy.
Chelsea said she’s a little nervous about the Games, but it has nothing to do with the running of her three races – the 100, 200, and 400 meter sprints. It’s getting there that troubles her. “It’s my first time on an airplane,” she said.
And Matthew has been part of Special Olympics Vermont for 20 years. He said its taught him to persevere through adversity.
Good luck to you all.
