A teenager appeared in Orleans County Court Thursday after a multi-town police chase ended with a crash and a search in the woods. Nineteen-year-old Raquan Knight faced a judge after police say the Hartford, Connecticut, youth sped through several Northeast Kingdom towns and crashed in Barton. A motor vehicle was driving erratically in the city of Newport and fled from law enforcement, traveling through a number of towns at a high rate of speed. According to court paperwork, a Vermont State Trooper witnessed Knight fail to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk and when police began to follow him, he took off. He allegedly drove from Newport into Derby at nearly 90 mph, weaving in and out of traffic. A be-on-the-lookout was issued for Knight, who was driving a red Dodge Challenger. Police in Derby saw the car driving through the town towards Brownington at a high rate of speed. After that, police say he was seen in Orleans, and then again on I-91 going more than 120 mph. Ultimately, authorities say Knight crashed in Barton and tried to flee on foot. Police say Knight had 161 bags of fentanyl, crack cocaine, marijuana, and a scale in the car. Knight is being held on $15,000 bail.
