A Derby man lost his life Sunday afternoon in a fiery crash in Barton

A Derby man lost his life Sunday afternoon in a fiery crash in Barton. The Orleans Fire Department and Orleans EMS responded to a report of vehicles on fire on route 58 just before noon. They arrived to find a motorcycle and truck fully engulfed in flames.  State Police pronounced Eric Fillmore, 36, dead at the scene. Investigators say Tanner Flynn, 32, of Irasburg, was driving his Chevy 1500 east and crossed the center line. He reportedly struck Fillmore who was riding his Harley Davidson in the opposite direction and succumbed to his injuries. Both vehicles were completely destroyed by fire. Flynn, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Copley Hospital. The Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to further assist. The roadway in the area of the collision was closed for nearly four hours. The investigation is ongoing.
