As they prepare to enter into a new lease with the town, the directors of the Mt. Eustis Ski Hill are making longer-term plans to add new trails and, at some point, lighting for winter nights.
In 2015, after being dormant for three decades, the historic ski hill that sits on 33 acres of town-owned land and offers a rope tow, reopened under a nonprofit organization, with the goal of providing a fun activity at low cost to youth and families.
At the Select Board’s Oct. 26 meeting, several directors presented the terms of the next lease, which is being negotiated in consultation with the Littleton Parks and Recreation commissioners.
The three-year lease, which is being finalized and has been reviewed by town legal counsel, comes out of a warrant article approved by residents at the March town meeting in a 917-135 vote.
The article requires two public hearings before the Select Board can approve it.
The Oct. 26 board meeting set aside time for what was the first of the two hearings.
“We’ve got ourselves into a good final draft,” said town manager Troy Brown.
What’s changed is the insurance policy, which will cover injuries related to skiing, but not off-season hikers who can hike to the top, which is separate from ski hill operations and is instead covered separately by the town, said Josh Marshall, a ski hill group director.
And now it’s time for your JJ Country sports…
One of the most unbelievable comebacks in NHL history happened last night as the Winnipeg Jets down 4-0 to the Montreal Canadians with less than 3 minutes to go in the game came back to beat the Habs 5-4 in overtime. Winnipeg scored 4 goals in a matter of 126 seconds to send it to overtime where the Jets Dylan Samberg netted the game winner. Montreal will have to have a short term memory as they welcome the Utah Mammoth to the Belle Center on Thursday.
In the NBA the Boston Celtics will host the Milwaukee Bucks tonight. Celtics looking for their 5th straight home win. Jayson Tatum averaging 27 points per game. Tip off at the Garden this evening at 7:30pm.
